“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me”—Philippians 4:13 (NASB)
Am I the only one who has relied heavily on this scripture over the years? I use and depend on it when faced with the most challenging situations. It gives me the strength to endure those challenges because I know that I am not facing them alone. Christ is with me.
Maybe you’re going through a difficult season in your life. Maybe you’re facing some unexpected challenges and you can’t see your way out. I don’t know what you are facing, but what I do know is that knowing that Christ is with you is all the support you need. This is important to know because we all look for adequate support at work, at home, and in our church lives, and when we don’t receive it, we are left feeling frustrated, disappointed, and even alone. But, it’s good to know that no matter what we face, God is with us, strengthening us for the journey.
The Apostle Paul was experiencing his challenges, yet he was comforted knowing that whatever state he was in, he knew that everything would work out for him. He knew that he was not alone, and that Christ was his source of strength to endure his journey.
Who is your source of strength for endurance? Is it your friends? Your family? Your co-workers? People may show up for you, and without question, they may not. And here’ the thing… if your source is anyone but Christ, chances are you have been frustrated. Whether you have support from others or not, Christ is our only true source for endurance. In all your trials and difficulties, lean and rely on the Lord. He will be there with you. He will not fail you.
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving each of us the strength to endure. We will look to you for guidance even when experiencing our most complex challenges. Help us be obedient to your voice and know when you are leading us on the path we should go. We ask this all in your name, Amen.
