… do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 (NKJV)
We are living in a time where mental health has become the number one topic of concern. Suicide is on the rise, and with the increase of horrific crimes, mental instability is more prevalent than ever before. In addition, the pandemic that has plagued us for the last couple of years has taken a toll on the psyche of people, especially those who have lost loved ones. According to The Mental Health Coalition, “One of the most pressing public health concerns is mental illness, a condition that affects hundreds of millions of people globally.”1 Yes, mental health is at the top of our list of things to address and pray about.
While for some, addressing mental health issues with the aid of mental health professionals, and even medicinally, is necessary, it is also important that we couple action with fervent prayers.
Healing and freedom start with the Spirit and can be realized when we seek the great Physician, Jesus the Healer, through the Word of God. Romans 12:2 (NKJV) reminds us, “…do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Aggressively employing spiritual practices to battle the matters of the mind is necessary for our well-being. Renewing our minds will help to transform our lives from an unhealthy mental state to a healthy mental state.
Make the decision to meditate or think on God’s truths. Consistently read and declare scripture until it takes root in your heart, and you believe God’s promises. Get rid of anxious and fearful thoughts. All throughout the Bible, God reminds us not worry. It is not your job to worry about your children, family members, or anything else. God knows all that you are going through, and God is with you. Embrace your new mind, and a new way of thinking. Give all your cares over to God for He cares for you.

Lord God, I thank you for your gift of life, power, love, and a sound mind. I ask for your help in keeping my mind focused on your truth, the Word of God. As I meditate on your Word, I believe that my mind will be renewed and my life will be transformed—free from anxiety, fear, depression, and anything that would hinder me from receiving your promises for my life. Today, I make the decision to get rid of wrong thoughts of defeat and fear, and I embrace thoughts of peace, joy, and victory. I surrender my life to you and receive the abundant life Jesus Christ died to give me. In the name of Jesus I pray!
