Any and every writer will agree: the twenty-first-century pressure to perfect the craft is real. While the writing process itself can already be a tedious, and (admittedly) often grueling experience, reaching the point of publication can feel like a distant dream: one that keeps you up all night, and never seems to reach an ending. But as always, fear not, Vine community! Our day-to-day mission as a publisher and as a family is to extend a helping, and uplifting hand.

One giant step you can take towards obtaining the best support as an aspiring author, is to attend, and optimize the numerous, national writing conferences that can give you just the push (or pull) you may need to complete your manuscript. Here, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite conferences that are not only a great means of developing/advancing your writing, but also a wonderful space to interact with, and learn from other aspiring authors.

1. The Calvin College Festival of Faith and Writing: “A Celebration of Literature and Belief”

Next conference: April 16-18, 2020 – Grand Rapids, Michigan

This biennial, two-day conference is an incredible experience that we highly recommend you look into. Workshops, alongside informative forums, and esteemed speakers of the Christian writing world, make for a truly unforgettable couple of days. And as if the festival couldn’t get any better, the event has steadily, yet significantly diversified with time.

2. Writing for Your Life: Spiritual Writers Conference

Hosted by Writing for Your Life, this conference focuses primarily on supporting and encouraging those are interested in spiritual writing. The event brings in well-known Christian authors, as well as representatives from Christian publishers to facilitate face-to-face writing conferences, and aid spiritual writers in their process.

3. Publishing in Color Conference

Next conference: Nov. 8-9, 2018 – Elmhurst, IL (Chicago area)

This recent establishment by Writing for Your Life is a series of conferences specifically catering to spiritual writers of under-represented groups (can we get an Amen?!). The first of the series, attended by our very own CEO herself, served aspiring African American authors and authors of African descent. These conferences are a wonderful space to build relationships, network, and develop your writing alongside many who share similar experiences.

Everything, especially writing, is a process—but you never have to go about it alone. While Vine will always be rooting for you, these national conferences are an accessible, powerful means of advancing you in your journey.
